June 2, 2006, Newsletter Issue #18: The Don’ts of downloading movies

Tip of the Week

More about broadband movies: In the 90s, file sharing sites popped up and having been wreaking on the entertainment & music industry ever since. These sites basically take copy protected movie & music files and circulate them so they can be downloaded for free. Today, this practice still continues. Though it seems both industries have seemed to wise up a bit more. So before you start your illegal movie download collection you might want to think twice. Studios are now installing codes in their files that can be traced to the computer doing the downloading. Plus, they’ve also managed to create dummy files that don’t even work when you download. Aside from the legal ramifications there are also other things to consider. Some people actually encode viruses within the files. So one simple download could do major damage to your computer.
